    I f you add red it will turn more purple you have to sand back the black to actuate the flame. Then a nice high gloss will bring out everything

    Damn son.. Put a thick.. smooth layer.. hit it with heat.. Give yourself something to actually sand on.. with a flat block. 😅 Not sure if you thinned it... But don't. Zpoxy finishing isn't the right product. Regular zpoxy would have gone better.

    • @DavidImrie
      @DavidImrie 19 дней назад

      Agreed. Can't use a flat black on a curved body, but the thicker resin doesn't lend itself well to getting bubbles out etc. probably going to sand it off and respray

    • @emilymiller1853
      @emilymiller1853 18 дней назад

      @@DavidImrie heat the resin before.. In the cup.. and heat it once it's applied.. The bubbles will pop right out. You cannot sand card scraped thin epoxy.. there's nothing there. You can also build a couple thin layers without sanding, then sand once you have enough material to work with.. You can also use a needle to inject epoxy into any void or bubble after it sets. Different techniques.

    Honestly, locking tuners are just a gimmick.. because if you tune up the wormgear will lock it in place . Especially if you run a higher gear ratio.. the old standard is 14:1 but I like about 18:1 .. 21:1 I think is just too much cranking to get to pitch.. But when a guitar won't stay in tune its hardly ever get the tiners at fault unless the tuner is stripped ..

    I'm trying to do same on the laurel fingerboard for my Gretsch. What is the product specifically? I can only find Fiddes Naphta Oils and the tints that seem like they'd be most like what you're using are either Dark Oak or New Brown Mahogany, although the latter looks like it could he quite red. Really not sure which one to go with as it's my first time with this sort of thing.

Or any proud person regardless of their trade. We've all met them and worked with and for them. They can never be wrong, even if it means eminent disaster.

    I swapped out the junk preamp tubes mine came with NOS 4 RCA 7025 and a couple NOS GE JAN 12ax7’s and it is nearly silent. Bridge the channels by plugging your guitar into the 1 input of the vintage channel and use a patch cable from 1 of the custom channel into 2 of the vintage channel and it sounds better than you can ever imagine it would. The EQ will be weird unless you use an a/b/y pedal with a phase correction…find a video if you don’t know…anyway one side the bass will be more responsive to adjustment use that side for bass and turn other side all the way down. The treble will generally be responsive on the opposite channel and you turn the other side down. You will get beautiful break up at 2 or 3 volume. Both channels come through so blend each volume knob in to your liking.

    The fretboard on my Epi Firebird is laurel as well, and it's not too bad - but I agree, a nicely darkened board simply looks better... 😀👍 I've done this before with leather dye, since that really permeates the wood. Done it in 2 stages, first one quite thickly applied, then wiped down. The second layer somewhat thinned down, and that evened it out really well.... Every time I took all excess off, and let it dry. After the last I buffed it all out with a piece of cloth, because you definitely don't want to end up with dyed fingertips 🤣 That rosewood danish oil looked absolutely stunning, I'd say...

    Sanding blocks!! Fingers leave low spots. Rub the dye dry. Transtint dyes work better for wood. Sponge roller to apply the epoxy and use fast passes with a torch to pop bubbles. Try putting the black on then sand back to make the flame really pop then use the purple thinned.

Why not try remember keeping it a little bit moist on your next batch will help ease in joining the ends together for a more natural inseam without having to manicure quite so much. Such a wonderful video, you spent so much time demonstrating and editing etc I really appreciate how much work that is. 👍 Re the epoxy; I've worked with epoxy for years and that epoxy you have is really not right for that job. I use a surfboard topcoat epoxy, it is meant for this type of thing, to apply well and make a very hard tough durable top layer. When applying, it will run off very easily and leaves a 0.1 to 0.15mm thick clear layer with a shiny surface, no orange peel problem. You dont even really have to brush it you can pour on and just run off the excess over the sides. Dries to a solid approx 1-2 hours, touch safe 12 hours. Dont even need to sand between coats because as a topcoat resin it is made to bond to itself. Sorry cant say the exact brand because of work rules but any good quality surfboard topcoat resin should have similar properties. Anyway, thanks for the video. 👍🙂
